Three Maids Hill Road Closures

A34 Three Maids Hill (Winchester, Hampshire) – Bridge Repairs

We’ll shortly be carrying out essential concrete repairs to the bridge which carries the A272 over the A34 at Three Maids Hill, north of Winchester (Hampshire). These repairs will improve the longevity of the bridge and ensure safety for our customers.

Specialist scaffolding will be in place below the bridge, and our teams will be elevated platforms to reach the areas to be repaired.

Works are expected to start on Monday 26 April 2021 and should be completed in November 2021. To minimise disruption to our customers, we’ll carry out work overnight from 9pm to 6am (Monday to Friday only) when there are fewer vehicles on the road.

For the safety of our workforce and customers, there will be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit on the A34 northbound and southbound carriageways for the duration of the repairs. There will also be a lane closure and a 30mph speed limit on the A272 in both directions across the bridge.

In addition, there will be closures of the A34 northbound and southbound overnight

between 9pm and 6am, Monday to Friday nights only. The provisional dates for these

closures are below, but are subject to change:

The A34 north and southbound carriageways between the A303 Bullington

Cross and the A33 Kings Worthy link will be closed overnight on Monday 26

April 2021. Standard/light vehicles will be diverted via the A33 and A303. Heavy

Goods Vehicles (HGVs) will be diverted via the A303 and M3.

The A34 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between the A303

(Bullington Cross) and the M3 (junction 9) from Tuesday 27 April 2021 for 16

weeks. Standard/light vehicles will be diverted east along the A303 towards

Popham, then south on the A33 back to the A34/M3. Heavy Goods Vehicles

(HGVs) will be diverted east along the A303 to the M3, exit and junction 7 and go

around the roundabout, then join the M3 southbound.

The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight beneath the bridge

only from Friday 13 August 2021 for nine weeks. Traffic will be diverted off the

A34 via the exit slip road at the junction, around the Three Maids Hill roundabout,

then re-join the A34 via the northbound entry slip road.

Please note that these works are subject to change, due to weather conditions or

unforeseen circumstances. We’ll advertise the closures on yellow signs placed in

advance at the junction and alongside the A34, as well as via our Highways

England South East twitter account.

I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption you may

experience during this work.
